Después de una supuesta propuesta matrimonial muy romántica a las 4 AM en la que el líder de la banda Guns N' Roses, Axl Rose, le dijo a Erin Everly: "Cásate conmigo o me mato", Everly condujo a toda velocidad hasta Las Vegas para salvarle la vida al cantante. La hija del roquero Don Everly intercambió votos con Axl Rose el 28 de abril de 1990 en la capilla Cupid's Wedding Chapel. Solamente tres semanas más tarde, Rose presentó una demanda de divorcio contra Everly, quien inspiró la canción "Sweet Child O' Mine". Aunque se reconciliaron temporalmente, Everly y Rose recibieron la anulación matrimonial un año más tarde. En el divorcio hubo acusaciones de Erin hacia Axl de maltrato físico y psicológico, pero todo se solventó, como suele ser habitual en estos casos, con una indemnización millonaria que Axl le pagó a Erin y que ésta tardo cuatro días en dilapidar, viéndose obligada incluso a vender sus anillos de boda para poder subsistir. Poco después se casó con un reconocido y pudiente arquitecto de prestigio de Atlanta. Axl diría de ella posteriormente: "Erin fue el gran amor de mi vida, me separe precisamente por eso, porque la amaba tanto que me hacía sufrir mucho".
